Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment NY

If you have achy, sore, swollen joints in your hand and wrist, then you may suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. Other than coming into our office to discuss treatment options, there are a few everyday changes that you can make to help alleviate flare-ups and pain.

Sleep With Wrist Braces

If you are human, then you sleep with your hands all over the place. In fact, if you were to watch a video of yourself sleeping at night, you would probably see your arms and your hands in some pretty awkward positions. When your wrists are bent, it can exacerbate your carpal tunnel syndrome and make it so that you wake up with sore hands. The goal of sleeping with braces on is to demobilize your wrists while you’re sleeping so that this doesn’t happen.

Keep Your Wrists Neutral When Typing

If you spend a lot of time at your computer either doing school work, regular work, or just surfing the web, then you may be putting your wrists in all sorts of weird positions when you type. Remember that the goal is to make sure that you wrists aren’t bent, but rather that they sit in a neutral position. Try to get a desk or sit at a table that will allow you to do this as comfortably as possible.

Watch the Push Ups

If you workout a lot, then chance are that you do your fair share of pushups. Although pushups can help you get toned arms, they can also help you get swollen wrists and hands. Think about it, the position that your wrists are in during a push up are pretty much the worst position that they can be in.

Having carpal tunnel syndrome isn’t exactly fun to live with; especially because you use your fingers and hands ALL OF THE TIME. Rather than doing something wild like learning how to do everything with your toes, instead, try to make these small lifestyle changes and hopefully you will see real results.
