3 Things to Know About Nasal Fractures

Facial Fractures East Brunswick NJWhen it comes to taking care of your nose, there’s not a lot you have to do on an everyday basis. As far as your body goes, let’s just classify your nose as low maintenance. If, however, you think you’ve broken your nose then that’s a whole other story. Luckily, here at Dr. George P. Smith’s office, we specialize in a variety of facial fractures including nasal fractures. Let’s take a closer look at three things to know about nasal fractures.

  1. Signs of a Fracture Are Pretty Apparent

If you get a hairline fracture in your arm, it may not be as easy to spot right away. If, however, you break your nose, let’s just say that your symptoms will be staring you straight in the face. Typically, patients who have a broken nose have black eyes, bruising around the nose, bleeding, swelling, and pain; if you experience any of these symptoms come into our office right away so that we can rule out further complications.

  1. If Left Untreated, It Can Worsen

If you have a broken nose, the last thing you want to do is leave it untreated. A broken nose cannot only leave you with a changed facial appearance, but it can also result in more serious complications like a septal hematoma which is a collection of blood that will need to be removed and drained.

  1. It Can Be Fixed

There’s a common misconception among some people that there’s nothing that can be done about a broken nose, but that’s simply not the case. During your initial appointment with Dr. Smith, he will evaluate your fracture and determine what type of treatment will be best for you.

Getting your nose broken isn’t exactly something you want to experience, but they do happen. If you experience any of the symptoms listed above, make sure that you schedule an appointment with Dr. Smith right away.
