Why You Don’t Need to Be Scared Of Scarring After a Breast Reduction

Having breasts that are too big can be painful. If you feel like you are experiencing a lot of chronic back and chest pain because of your large breasts, then you may want to consider getting a breast reduction. During a breast reduction, we will remove excess breast tissue to help make your breast smaller and more comfortable. Typically, we will also do a breast lift so that they sit higher on your chest. One of the things that hold people back from getting one of these procedures is scarring. Let’s take a closer look at why you shouldn’t be scared of scarring after a breast reduction.

You May Scar At first

Unlike a breast augmentation surgery where we can hide the incisions under the breasts or in the armpit, we typically make incisions on the front of the breast below the nipple. This method allows us to access all of the breast tissue so that we can accurately remove it and reposition the breasts. Scarring right after surgery will be visible since the incisions are made directly on top of the breasts, but that should fade with time.

Depending on your skin color and how well your skin responds to surgery, will determine just how noticeable the scarring will be on your breasts. However, as long as you apply ointment to the scars and are careful with your skin as it heals, they should naturally fade with time.

Having scars on your breasts isn’t something that you may feel comfortable with, but they should fade with time.  If you want to learn more about breast reduction surgery, schedule an appointment with Dr. Smith at our office. CALL TODAY: (718) 608-1111
