3 Signs You Have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Typing FemaleIt wasn’t really until the popularity of the computer that people became familiar with carpal tunnel syndrome. As a narrow passageway on your wrist, the carpal tunnel can become inflamed or damaged due to a number of things such as your wrists overall anatomy, behavioral patterns such as incorrectly typing, or other underlying health issues. Here are three indications that you have carpal tunnel syndrome.

  1. Numbness

If you notice that the more you use your wrist, the more numb and tingly it gets, this is a sure fire sign that you have carpal tunnel syndrome. To really ensure that it is carpal tunnel syndrome and the numbness isn’t due to something else, take a break and stretch your wrists until the numbness subsides, then go back to what you were previously doing and see if the numbness comes back— if it does then you likely have carpal tunnel syndrome.

  1. Tingling

If you notice that when you start to use your wrists for any sort of activity like typing, playing the piano, or playing a sport like tennis, then you might have carpal tunnel syndrome. Simply try to shake out your wrists in order to get some more blood flow into them. If this doesn’t work or if the tingling sensation persists day after day, it’s time to schedule an appointment to see your doctor.

  1. Weakness

If you notice that things like grasping an orange or even holding a pen seem to cause some sort of strain or weakness on your wrists, then you might want to consider getting checked for carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel can weaken the nerves and ligaments in the wrist and cause simple things to suddenly become a lot more difficult.
